The evenings are slowly getting lighter, the snowdrops are in bloom and it’s that time of year when we soon get to wave goodbye to winter and welcome spring. It will begin to look bright and fresh outside with colourful bulbs popping up, making it the perfect time to give your house a freshen up too.
A spring clean is much more than your usual weekly tidy up and vacuum around the house, it is a thorough deep clean of your home.
So throw open your windows and get the cleaning products at the ready, and take a look at 8 items in your home that need your attention for a proper deep clean this spring.
De-Clutter
Before you start cleaning, make sure you spend some time decluttering. It’s amazing how much space you can create from throwing out or recycling items that you have used in 6 months or no longer need.
If you find it hard to declutter and get rid of items, think about reorganising. Most people have a habit of throwing items into drawers, cupboards or shelves, due to lack of time. Spending a little time sorting these spaces, this will help you keep things neat and tidy long after spring.
Carpet Cleaning
Regularly hoovering your carpets is great, but you may be surprised how much dirt, dust and hair can get engrained into your carpet. If you have small children or animals, you’ll probably have all sorts of small stains that your regular hoover won’t pick up.
For best results use a high-performance vacuum cleaner or hire a professional carpet cleaner to help get rid of stains, freshen up your carpet and free up dirt. Workbusters can help!
Upholstery Cleaning
Think about how often you use your sofa or armchairs and all the grime, dust and crumbs that must accumulate there. Use the upholstery attachment on your vacuum cleaner to remove any dirt that has gathered under cushions and down the side.
You’ll need to check the label, which is usually stuck to the underneath of your seat cushions, to see if you can clean it with either water-based, detergent or solvent cleaners. Some upholstery is professional clean only. For best results, you’ll need to tackle stains as soon as they happen. Workbusters love helping to make your upholstery look like new again, we can clean sofas, chairs and curtains.
Window Cleaning
With all the spring sunshine spilling through your windows now, you’ll probably notice just how grubby they became over the winter! For internal and external window cleaning, use a simple solution of washing up liquid and water, just don’t make it too soapy! Use a soft cloth to wash windows clean and use a squeegee blade (you may have one for the shower) to wipe off any express. An old trick is to use newspaper to buff it dry and leave it sparkling!
If it all sounds like too much effort and time to do this yourself, call Workbusters. We are here to help and can arrange a professional cleaning service that will leave your windows gleaming!
Refrigerator Cleaning
It’s easy for stains and food particles to build up in your fridge, so make sure you give this a complete once over. An old toothbrush is a great tool, enabling you to get into all those hard to reach nooks and crannies.
Take all the shelves out and give a thorough wipe over, and clean the vegetable drawers properly. If you’re cleaning your fridge you may also want to think about defrosting the freezer whilst you’re at it!
To keep your fridge smelling fresh, cut a lemon in half and place 1 half on the top shelf and 1 on the bottom, this helps your fridge have a clean, citrusy smell.
Oven Cleaning
It’s a big task that not a lot of people enjoy (apart from Workbusters) but it’s worthwhile to give your oven a proper clean and get rid of all that grease and grime. For a greener way to make your oven sparkle, add bicarbonate of soda to water in a spray bottle and squirt on the surfaces of your oven (not the heating elements), leave overnight, and wipe this away the next morning.
It’s worth hiring a professional oven cleaner if you don’t have the time or would like a skilled job, to ensure your oven is spotless and sparkling.
Your Wardrobe
It’s easy to keep filling your wardrobe until it becomes bursting at the seams. Spring is a great time to go through your clothes and put them all into piles of “Keep, Charity, Bin”. Try to be strict with yourself, if you haven’t worn something in 6 months, ask yourself why, and then choose what pile it should go in.
Once you have a redefined selection of clothes, it’s time to organise them neatly, hang up dresses, fold tops, put shoes away neatly (try to keep shoe boxes as this is a great way to keep them neat and tidy). Not only will the interior of your wardrobe look neater, but you’ll also be more organised in the mornings.
Mattress Cleaning
We know we should be washing our bed sheets every at least every 14 days if not more, but what about the mattress? The spring clean is a good time to give your mattress a proper freshen up, you can use the vacuum nozzle to clean the surface.
For mattresses that need a little more TLC, Workbusters offer a professional mattress cleaning service that will help freshen it up.
