Moving into a new home is extremely exciting, but it also requires a lot of time and effort, especially when it comes to tidying and cleaning the place up to make it feel like home.
Whether you are buying or renting the property, a deep clean is the best way of ensuring you have a fresh canvas on which to build your dream home.
Here are some of our top tips to deep clean your new home!
Clean Before Moving In
It’s best to deep clean your flat/house before you move your belongings in so that you have easy access to all of the surfaces you are going to clean.
Start From the Top
Start cleaning from top to bottom. Finishing up with cleaning your floors will ensure you don’t have to vacuum the floor twice when dust inevitably falls from the surfaces, cupboards and wardrobes as you clean them. This approach is particularly important if the property comes furnished.
Don’t forget to wipe the lamps, fans and the top of cabinets – they are notorious for collecting dust.
Clean the Fridge
During the deep clean, you should make sure that the surfaces you keep your food on are hygienic. As the fridge should be empty, it won’t take longer than half an hour to remove the shelves and wash them with warm water and soap. You can sanitise the rest of the fridge with a solution of 1:1 water and white vinegar to ensure that no harmful chemicals will end up on your food.
One Room at a Time
We advise you to focus on one room at a time to make sure you don’t miss anything. It’s a good idea to start cleaning your rooms from the top down and make sure the inside of any cabinets are thoroughly cleaned. You can leave the floors until last as you don’t want to get them dirty stepping from one room to another.
When it comes to cleaning your new bathroom, focus just as much on disinfecting as making sure it looks spotless. Give the toilet, washbasin and the shower a good scrub with vinegar and bicarbonate of soda to get rid of the calcium as well as any bacteria. Floors
The last thing on your cleaning list should be the floors. For wood, tile, and linoleum floors, start by using a vacuum attachment to clean corners and edges, and then sweep up all remaining debris. When mopping your floors make sure you use the right product for the surfaces.
When deep cleaning your new home don’t shy away from heavy-duty cleaning products. Kitchen appliances and bathroom corners will probably need some bleach and a scourer. However, use non-toxic cleaning products for your fridge and kitchen counters. With our guide, a meticulous approach and a pair of helping hands, it shouldn’t take you longer than a couple of days to deep clean your new home to perfection.
